Thomas And Friends: Adventures! is a game developed by Mattel. The game is all about exploring different places in the world. The game is inspired by a British television series called “Thomas And Friends: Big Worlds! Big Adventures!”. The game has a narrative style, and the objectives are connected with a story. 

Thomas is the name of a blue steam engine pre-unlocked in this game. In this game, you travel the whole world along with Thomas. This game allows you to explore the world through stories and mini-games. China is the first place you go after the game starts, and later you can select which other country you want to explore. This game has an in-game journal allowing you to track all your collectibles.

Thomas & Friends: Adventures! Gameplay 

Thomas & Friends: Adventures! starts in china, and an interactive map is displayed on your screen. The railway track connects different missions in order. There are no complex controls in this game. The grey spots are stations, and that is where Thomas halts. The missions are distributed between these stations, and each station provides you with different gameplay. Every time you complete a game in its respective stations, you earn a suitcase that rewards you with stickers and collectibles. These collectibles will be used in upcoming stations.

Station Type-1 

This is the first station you come across in China, it is narrative, and Thomas explains what you’ll be exploring in china. You don’t get to play in this mission; all you do is watch a video to understand the culture and practices held in that place.

Station Type-2 

Here you’ll be introduced to a pre-existing train set. All you will need to do is drag and put the required tracks, builds, and decorations in their designated white space. The track is incomplete at first, with only a few tracks present. You start by placing normal tracks; then, you place tracks modified with buildings. Once all the tracks are placed, you will place decorations along with trees. Now the track is complete, and you’ll deploy a train on this finished track set. When the train is deployed, the camera shifts from an aerial view to a third-person perspective. You can experience the track you built from a third-person perspective. The train keeps on moving until the suitcase is found.

Station Type-3 

A race between two steam engines. The controls are simple and easy as the race itself. Holding the button in the bottom right corner will accelerate Thomas, and the indicator will move toward the red region. Try to maintain the indicator in the green region, and you’ll win the race. 

There’s also a boost button available, which will increase the engine’s speed tremendously and hence the indicator will move toward the extreme right region. Use boost whenever you feel acceleration isn’t enough.

Station Type-4 

This station is a creative mode; you can design your own track and add your own decorations anywhere on the map. Hold and drag to create normal tracks. Special tracks can be created from the menu on the right side of the screen. A required number of tracks should be created to complete this stage. The stage completion can be measured using the green bar above; the stage is complete once it reaches the suitcase.

Station Type-5

This station is the last one; it concludes your journey and shows the collectibles you earned on your way.

• Play the whole map for the second time to unlock the second set of stickers.
• Look for the suitcase icon on top of the signboards; they pop up because a potential reward can be obtained.
• Play with sound on. This game requires you to listen and follow instructions rather than read.
• The track you create need not always form a loop.
• China is the only location you can explore for free; to explore other locations like Australia, Brazil, India, Italy, Sodor, Tanzania, and USA, you will have to pay amounts varying from 320-440 INR.

Conclusion

Thomas & Friends: Adventures! is interactive and engages you well. This game teaches you about different places, and it gives a glimpse of different cultures. The only thing holding this game back is its limited content if you aren’t willing to spend money. However, children aged under 10 years are surely going to love the game if they already watch its TV show.
