A new game has been unveiled by Digital Extremes, the creators of the popular MMORPG Warframe. This game, called Soulframe, has a slower-paced fantasy setting with more grounded combat mechanics than the sci-fi Warframe. Recently, the company released a 30-minute trailer that showcased the gameplay, visuals, and character interactions of the upcoming title.
Soulframe: Gameplay & Visuals
Digital Extreme shared an extended look at Soulframe during its TennoCon 2023 event. The trailer showed us the new fantasy world, combat mechanics, and some characters. Players take on the role of Envoys, who are working on reclaiming the natural world of magical ancestors from a corrupting force. While the setting contrasts heavily with Warframe, the DNA of the space hack-and-slash is still present here. The third-person perspective returns, but you’re not gliding and shooter anymore.

The combat is a lot more grounded and slower-paced. Although we gathered this from the official trailer, the actual game and its various builds might offer a different experience. Soulframe takes some inspiration from medieval fantasy themes as well. Digital Extremes plans on having this title also run as a live service game. Meaning players can expect to see periodic updates to keep the content fresh and engaging.

The visuals were gorgeous, with DE doing away with all the futuristic technology in favour of a lush green forest. The in-game UI is also pretty unique, with options resembling manuscripts. Soulframe will be an open-world title, but its scale is still unknown. It is worth noting that the procedurally generated dungeons also go to Soulframe. Thanks to its aesthetic and gameplay, some have even dubbed it as the “free-to-play Elden Ring” online. The game is still in early development, so it might be a while before the full release.
