Sony has announced the PlayStation Portal, a handheld device that streams games from a PS5 console over Wi-Fi, utilizing the PS Remote Play service. Additionally, Sony has unveiled two new audio products designed to enhance the gaming experience with low-latency audio.

PlayStation Portal remote player will launch later this year for 199.99 USD (approx Rs 16,400), 219.99 EURO, 199.99 GBP, and 29,980 YEN. There’s no concrete launch date as of now, but Sony says it will soon have more details regarding the pre-order details for the device.

As for its features, Sony is relying heavily on the tech it used in the PS5 DualSense controllers. The PlayStation Portal includes the controller’s key features, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The 8-inch LCD screen is capable of producing 1080p resolution at 60fps. The handheld further gets a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and speakers on the top. However, the rest of the specs have been kept under wraps for now.

As for how the PlayStation Portal works, the gaming handheld will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to switch between playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller.

Surprisingly, the device doesn’t support Bluetooth connectivity and is leveraging only Wi-Fi and PlayStation Link for remote play. The latter is Sony’s proprietary technology, which delivers low latency, lossless audio and easy switching between multiple PlayStation Link hosts, such as PS5 with the USB adapter and PlayStation Portal. Further, PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming are not supported by the handheld, confirmed Sony.

Separately, two more products were unveiled, including Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore, the latest PlayStation wireless headset and earbuds. Pulse Elite will be available for 149.99 USD (approx Rs 12,200), 149.99 EURO, 129.99 GBP, and 18,980 YEN, while the Pulse Explore will be available for 199.99 USD, 219.99 EURO, 199.99 GBP and 29,980 YEN.

Pulse explore

The Pulse Elite is Sony’s new wireless headset that offers lossless audio and comes with a retractable boom mic and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. A charging hanger is also included with the product for a charging and storage option. The Pulse Explore is its first set of wireless earbuds, providing a portable audio experience with dual microphones and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. It also offers lossless audio and comes with a charging case.

When using Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore with PS5, the USB adapter that’s included with each headset and earbuds is required for PlayStation Link. The PlayStation Link USB adapter will also be sold separately as a standalone item and can be used on PC and Mac. Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore can simultaneously connect to a PlayStation Link-supported device (PS5, PC, Mac, or PlayStation Portal) and a Bluetooth-supported device.
