The popular pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves has concluded its crossover with the classic Monkey Island series with the release of the third and final Tall Tale, The Lair of LeChuck. In this finale episode, players will join forces with Guybrush Threepwood, the mighty pirate, to face his archenemy, LeChuck, the ghost pirate, in a showdown on the mysterious Monkey Island.
The Lair of LeChuck is the third and final episode of The Legend of Monkey Island, a trilogy of Tall Tales that started in July and brought the characters and locations from the point-and-click adventure games to the Sea of Thieves. The first Tall Tale, The Journey to Mêlée Island, introduced players to a twisted version of Melee Island in the Sea of the Damned, where they had to rescue Guybrush from LeChuck’s trap.
The second Tall Tale, The Quest for Guybrush, challenged players with the Three Legendary Trials, where they had to search for three symbols of true pirate courage, putting the players’ pirate skills to the test. The third Tall Tale, The Lair of LeChuck, takes players to the titular island, where they have to solve puzzles, explore catacombs, and confront LeChuck in his lair filled with Lava.
The Legend of Monkey Island is a tribute to the Monkey Island series, which Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer created at LucasArts in the early 1990s. The series follows the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, a so-called pirate who falls in love with Elaine Marley, the governor of Melee Island. He then battles LeChuck, a fearsome pirate who becomes a ghost after dying in pursuit of Guybrush.

“You’ll need to plot a way past the iconic Giant Stone Monkey Head, unearth three golden idols and delve into a maze of catacombs while seeking LeChuck’s lava-filled lair. From there, it’s a race to catch up with LeChuck before he can claim a final victory over Guybrush and Elaine and end his latest ruthless scheme”, read the announcement for the final episode.
“The Lair of LeChuck’ provides a thrilling conclusion to the story set up in the first two Tall Tales with the payoff of a highly anticipated excursion to Monkey Island itself, as faces both familiar and new show up to speed you on your way”, it added.
Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island part three is free for all players who own Sea of Thieves or have an Xbox Game Pass. The game can be played across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11 via Steam and the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform.
