Netflix has launched a new app, ‘Netflix Game Controller’, available on the Apple app store. The app enables users to control games with their phones acting as controllers. These games will be available on the Netflix app on your TV.
The description for the app on the App Store says that you can “connect to your TV to play” but a compatible game is yet to be listed. “Coming soon to Netflix,” the description reads. “Play games on your TV with the Netflix Game Controller. This Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device”, it further stated.
Once you download and open the app, you’ll be greeted with the app’s main screen, which indicates that “Netflix Games on TV are in beta” and that “some devices may not be supported at this time.” Once it opens, the app asks you to choose a game on your TV and follow directions to connect, which, as of now does nothing.

The launch of the Game Controller app by Netflix suggests that the company is working on bringing games to a bigger screen than your mobile phone or a tablet. With compatible games, your phone should act as a controller. In the past few months, Netflix has launched games like Laya’s Horizon, World of Goo Remastered, and the Oxenfree II: Lost Signals and bringing them to a TV near you should be an ideal way of attracting more viewers.
Netflix has already clarified in the past that it is not going to compete with the consoles of today, such as PS5 and Xbox series X. It is going to enter the cloud gaming space as the company has already been exploring options to form a proper strategy for the entry.
