The Xbox Series X and Series S consoles received a surprise update from Microsoft in September 2023. This update addresses some issues and brings new features and improvements to enhance the overall gaming experience. Users can now manage game captures more easily, discover in-game events, and find popular apps with greater convenience on their Xbox consoles. The update is currently being rolled out.
One of the main changes in the update is the new policy for storing game captures on the Xbox network. Game captures stored on the network will be deleted after 90 days, so players will need to back up any clips or screenshots they want to keep for a longer period. To make this easier, Microsoft has added a new option to move, manage, and bulk upload game captures to either OneDrive or an external storage device. Players can also set up future captures to automatically back up to OneDrive.
The Events channel is another new feature introduced with the bonus September update for Xbox consoles. This channel will show live and upcoming events for the games players love. From the top of Home, players can scroll down and see what’s happening in their favourite games, such as new content, challenges, tournaments, and more. Users can further also click on each event to get more details and join in.

Aside from this, the update also makes it easier for players to find and download popular apps when setting up a new console. Whether they use the Xbox mobile app or the console itself to set it up, they will get the option to download popular apps like Apple Music, AppleTV, Crunchyroll, Disney+, Hulu, Movies & TV, Peacock, Spotify, and Tubi.
Finally, the update also offers a new feature dedicated towards sports fans who reside in the United States. They can now find their favourite sports games to play and watch their teams on Xbox streaming apps. Microsoft has already begun seeding the new update, so it should reach your console soon.
