Nearly a year ago, the long-awaited sequel to Grand Theft Auto V was spotted in a massive leak. Since then, GTA 6 has been surrounded by new rumors, leaks, and speculations. So here’s a roundup of everything we know so far.
GTA 6: Gameplay

Back in September 2022, a series of videos were leaked, offering us a glimpse of the gameplay of GTA 6. These small clips showed us new animations, a robbery scene, introduced new characters, and a full-blown shootout as well. The robbery and shooting sequences showcased gameplay mechanics that bore a resemblance to GTA V. Many had questioned the legitimacy of this leak, but known journalist Jason Schreier later confirmed that these were real. Prior to this, Rockstar hadn’t even teased anything about the game. So the info dump from the videos came as a big surprise to many.
Setting and Map

Even before the videos surfaced in September, it was rumored that GTA 6’s map will include the fictional location of Vice City. However, only a small portion will be featured in the overall playable area. The total map size is expected to rival both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 maps combined, which is nothing short of impressive. Rumors suggest multiple continents being featured in GTA 6 including playable areas like Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City, European regions, and London in a modern-day setting.
Story and Characters

The new Grand Theft Auto game is still in development and will likely go through numerous iterations for its plot. In other words, finer details regarding the story and playable characters are still unknown. The leaked videos also unveiled that the main characters had a design inspired by Bonnie and Clyde. GTA 6’s story seems to involve a couple that is on the run from the police for their involvement in multiple heists.
Release Date
Rockstar hasn’t officially announced the release date for GTA 6. But recent rumors claim that the developers are eyeing a holiday 2024 release, or possibly even 2025. Looking at the scale of Rockstar games, it won’t be surprising if the title gets delayed to 2026 as well.
