In a bid to lure in users of Discord, Microsoft has released a new feature as a part of its Meet app, called Microsoft Teams Play Together, that essentially allows users to chat, video call, and share their screens with their friends while playing games on a Windows 11-powered PC. The feature integrates within the Xbox Game Bar widget in Windows OS.
Microsoft Teams Play Together is designed to provide users with a seamless and immersive gaming experience so players can connect with their friends and family through voice and video chats. Users can not only invite anyone to watch and join them in gameplay. Still, they can also see the faces of their friends and family as overlays on top of their gameplay or watch anywhere on any device with Microsoft Teams.
How to use Microsoft Teams Play Together feature?
To use Microsoft Teams Play Together, users must have a personal Microsoft account logged into the PC and install the Microsoft Teams app on their device. They must also install the Teams Xbox Game Bar Overlays app from the Microsoft Store or the Widget Store on Game Bar. Users can then access the Teams widget on the Game Bar by pressing the Windows logo key + G. One can also pin the widget so it appears as an overlay while you are playing a game.

Microsoft says the Play Together feature works with any game and supports 4K resolution. Users can check the game’s Steam store page to see if it supports Remote Play and 4K resolution. Apart from that, one can further manage their settings and provide feedback on the Play Together widget by clicking on their profile picture.
With the release of the feature, Microsoft aims to compete with other gaming platforms, such as Discord and Steam, that also offer similar features. The feature should apparently increase user engagement and will also bring the video conferencing service in line with its competitors.
