It’s been more than 20 years since Bethesda released a new game in the Elder Scrolls series. Despite the huge popularity of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, there hasn’t been much news about its follow-up, even after a teaser a few years ago. However, it’s now been officially announced that Elder Scrolls VI is in full development.
After Over 20 Years, Elder Scrolls 6 is Finally Making Progress
In case you’re not familiar, the Elder Scrolls series is a well-known action role-playing franchise developed by Bethesda. The games take place in a make-believe world brimming with magic and mythical creatures such as dragons. One of the most appealing aspects of the series for many enthusiasts is the chance to explore the world and engage with fascinating characters. Skyrim, the fifth instalment of the series, was released in 2011, and in 2018, the developer announced the upcoming release of its successor, Elder Scrolls 6. However, details about the game have been scarce so far.

This title will be a massive game industry launch, which will likely be rivalled by only Grand Theft Auto 6 from Rockstar Games. Elder Scroll 6 entering full development is in line with Starfield’s nearing launch. Bethesda is known for working on one major game at a time. So once Starfield releases, the company’s development focus would likely shift to the new fantasy game. This was confirmed by Bethesda Softwork’s Head of Publishing, Pete Hines.

So when is Elder Scrolls 6 releasing?
Unfortunately, there is still no official word on the Elder Scroll 6’s launch date. With the game entering full development now, we can safely assume that the release is a while away. Elder Scrolls 6 could be released within the next five years based on the current development cycle. So, the game may not launch at least until 2028. Considering Microsoft acquired, there are rumours of Elder Scrolls 6 being an Xbox-exclusive launch, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet.
