A new Delta Force game is in development to rival popular military shooters like Battlefield, despite the franchise’s limited impact on the mainstream gaming market.
Delta Force: What’s it all about?
Delta Force first debuted back in 1998 on PC and was based around the military unit of the same name. While the initial games saw a rocky launch, the series appears to be getting a complete reboot. In a short trailer, Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group revealed snippets of gameplay. For those unaware, TiMi is a Chinese studio that has worked on major titles like Pokemon Unite and Call of Duty Mobile.

The new game will arrive with a full-length single-player mode that will be based on the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. This is basically a military campaign where the Delta Force unit was involved, and the battle also spawned the 2001 movie, Black Hawk Down. But what caught the attention of many was the large-scale PvP battles that will feature combat on launch, sea, and air. The trailer primarily offers us a look at the multiplayer mode, which hints at game modes similar to Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Could it topple Battlefield and Call of Duty?
Battlefield and Call of Duty are military shooters that stand at the top of their respective sub-genres. The latter has focused more on the arcade-shooter-style gameplay loop, while the former’s biggest appeal is the big team battles. Both of these games won’t be dethroned anytime soon, but Delta Force’s announcement shows what fans of military shooters have been asking for. A more grounded large-scale PvP game that doesn’t pull any unnecessary gimmicks. Right now, the Battlefield franchise is at its lowest with the player base dwindling. So Delta Force could fill a gaming market gap upon release.
