Valve has released Counter-Strike 2 after months of anticipation. This game is the sequel to the well-liked Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. However, some people are unsure if it will be as successful as its predecessor. Despite this, the game has gained a massive following of players within a day of its release and is considered the next big sensation in competitive shooters.
Over a Million Gamers are Playing Counter-Strike 2
Following a decade of CSGO, Valve announced that it would launch Counter-Strike 2, which will run on the more advanced Source 2 game engine. Over the last couple of weeks, the game has been in beta as the company worked on updating the existing maps and adding them to CS 2. Counter-Strike 2 is finally out, and over a million gamers are playing the game right now. It is listed on Steam, a popular digital storefront, with a peak player count of 1,471,730 today (28th September 2023).

This large figure means it leads the player count charts on Steam’s list, beating other notable names like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, and Rust. This title is also free to play, just like its predecessor, CSGO. So, anyone can try it out right now. It is also worth noting that CS 2 is a direct update of Global Offensive. In other words, you can no longer play the older title since Counter-Strike 2 has officially taken over.

Valve claims it supports legacy models and finishes besides just a newer game engine. Furthermore, it has upgraded all stock weapons with higher resolution models. The fresh launch also appears to have some odd glitches and performance issues, but these should likely be ironed out soon. But it remains to be seen if the sequel takes the Counter-Strike legacy to new heights.
