Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is all set to make its debut on November 10, and curtains have been lifted from certain set of features and gameplay options the new game from Activision will offer. The shooter game will pick up from where the Modern Warfare 2 left, and is set to have Open Combat Missions, new gameplay mechanics and a lot more.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 New Features
As mentioned, Modern Warfare 3 picks up immediately following the events of last year’s Modern Warfare 2, allowing for an all-new campaign mode that continues the storyline further. “Lead developer Sledgehammer Games, in partnership with Infinity Ward, is set to deliver a full Campaign of action-packed operations ranging from signature, cinematic experiences to free-form Open Combat Missions, resulting in more player choice than ever before”, said Activison.
Next, all 16 core launch maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) have been modernized with new modes and gameplay features and added to the franchise’s latest title. These maps include Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Karachi, Highrise, Invasion, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass, and Wasteland. Apart from these core maps, four new huge playable environments have also been added for a versatile experience.

The game consists of the largest Call of Duty Zombies map ever. Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ) tells a new Zombies story from developer Treyarch, with missions, core Zombies features, and a host of other features.

With an aim to give the player more choice over the gameplay, Open Combat missions are being introduced. It means making decisions, using different Loadouts and planning different paths through every operation across an involved Campaign. In other words, it is completely up to the user to decide on an appropriate course of action. This will allow the user to decide whether they want to approach the mission in a stealthy manner or if loud explosions are the way to go. Many vehicles will also be a part of the map so players can use them in missions.
In addition to new modes like Cutthroat (a competitive 3v3v3 mode), a full range of gameplay features will be available at launch, like choosing to play Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed on Favela, modes that were never part of the original map offering, said the Call of Duty team. There are also over 12 all-new core 6v6 maps.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Innovations
The new title also adds a new Tactical Stance (Tac-Stance) feature, which is defined as “a perfect middle-ground between hip-fire and aiming down sights”. One can toggle Tac-Stance on to improve weapon performance in tight areas where there’s not a lot of room for movement. When the tac-stance is turned on, the operator unshoulders the weapon and holds it in a canted firing position. Accuracy is a trade-off in this mode in exchange for improved mobility and handling. It is designed to be used in aggressive, close-quarter combat situations. Apart from these, there are more improvements available in this mode.
Then there are evolving load-outs that can contain military equipment, such as gloves, tactical vests, boots and more. After-market parts are being added to Gunsmith. These parts offer special customization options, allowing you to focus on your preferred and specific playstyle. After-market parts will also offer new progression paths and challenges to unlock.
The core mechanics of Modern Warfare 3 also deliver a massive offering of classic features. Other features will be made available, such as Map voting, new perks, classic mini-map behaviour and more. Apart from this, you can now:
- Cancel Slide animations
- Cancel partial Reloads during an animation
- Mantle while Sprinting, and more
Lastly, as confirmed before by the developer, a vast amount of content and weapon progression from Modern Warfare 2 will carry forward to Modern Warfare 3. That means every Multiplayer weapon you currently have in your MWII arsenal, along with all the new weapons available in Modern Warfare III, will be accessible to use on Day One.
