Krafton, the South Korean video game publisher, has finally received approval from the Indian government for its popular mobile battle royale game, BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India). The game returned in India a couple of months ago, so here’s what this news signifies.
BGMI Fans Rejoice: Game receives approval
For those unaware, BGMI, the India-exclusive version of PUBG: Mobile, was banned by the Indian government last year. The government stated that the data privacy of Indian users was the primary reason for the ban. Due to this ruling, the mobile game had to go through certain changes before being relaunched earlier this year. Krafton released the battle royale title again in May 2023, under a three-month trial period from the government.

During these three months, the game would be scrutinized and closely follow India’s guidelines. If any rules or regulations were breached in this period, the app would continue to face another restriction. And now, Krafton has finally received approval from the Indian government to operate their game in the region. This is great news for BGMI/PUBGM fans in the country who were concerned about the game being banned for the third time. In other words, BGMI players can finally rest easy as the uncertainty regarding its approval is also clear now.

Similar to how the original PUBG Mobile was banned in India, BGMI was also removed from app stores for the same reasons. Following the first ban of PUBG Mobile, Krafton released the exclusive India version of the game in 2021. However since the trial period has ended, BGMI might reach new heights in the Indian market again. Ahead of its 2022 ban, BGMI was one of the top-grossing Android games with a massive and active player base that logged in every day. So it’s quite likely that the looter shooter will see a similar success this time around as well.
