Armored Core VI has quickly become the second-largest launch for the company on Valve’s Steam platform, the most popular PC game distributor. This also makes it one of FromSoftware’s biggest releases in the PC gaming industry.
Armored Core VI: Tops Steam’s Most-Played Charts
The new game takes the company back to its roots with the Armored Core franchise. The series revolves around mechas (giant manned fighting robots), with players taking the role of a mercenary. Armored Core VI was released globally on August 25, and it quickly became FromSoftware’s second-biggest launch on PC. The game saw a peak concurrent player count of 156,171 users on Steam, achieved over the last weekend. Its first weekend sale likely boosted the numbers, but this figure is still quite impressive considering it’s the gaming company’s first non-SoulsBorne game.

For those unaware, SoulsBorne is a term frequently used to refer to games from FromSoftware, which include popular titles like the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and even Elden Ring. Right now, Elden Ring is still the most popular game from the studio, with a massive peak concurrent player count of 953,426. In comparison, a niche gaming community enjoyed the Armoured Core franchise and never saw widespread success.

Despite this, the mecha fighter game blazed past Dark Souls peak count of 129,975 and even Sekiro’s 125,315 player count to take the second spot. Players are busy outfitting their mechs with different patterns resembling superheroes/villains or even recreating iconic mechs from animes like Gundam or Neon Genesis Evangelion. Old fans of the Armored Core series have returned to the series once again, showing that FromSoftware is capable of building great worlds outside of just the dark fantasy setting.
