Nintendo fans have been eagerly waiting for a new Donkey Kong game for a long time, and it seems that their patience is about to be rewarded. According to a leak from a reliable tipster, Nintendo could be planning to announce a new Donkey Kong game for its Switch console, and it could happen as soon as this month.
While Nintendo hasn’t even confirmed that the September 2023 Direct is happening yet, leaks suggest it will take place this week. At the event, the company is speculated to make an announcement involving a Donkey Kong game that has been rumoured for quite some time now. The leak we have been mentioning comes from Pyoro, who recently posted a gif of Donkey Kong from ‘The Super Mario Bros.’ Movie on X.
Then, a day after this leak, the same leaker posted another set of posts with scenes from the Super Mario Bros. movie. The first hint was a GIF of Donkey Kong rolling around, with the caption being “who he is fighting”. The second post had a screenshot of the same movie’s Mario and Donkey Kong fight scene.

A reply asking if it contains the minis was responded to with a “Yes” by the leaker. Minis here depict the Mini Mario-based collectible toys that have also been featured in the Mario vs Donkey Kong subseries. They are small versions of Mario, Donkey Kong, Toad, Peach, and other characters from the Mario franchise.
Rumours abound also suggest that Nintendo wants to give the Donkey Kong franchise a big push, backing the recent leak about a game involving the same character. It is also possible that Nintendo might announce some of the older Donkey Kong games for its Switch Online, and this leak could be related to that. But the possibility of a new game for the Switch cannot be dismissed.
All of the leaks above directly point towards a Mario vs Donkey Kong game that could be coming to Switch. The upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation could be just what the fans need to see in the Donkey King franchise, also involving the beloved Mario character.
